Racism or good police practice ?
The Sunday Telegraph reports as follows on the release of Official Metropolitan Police statistics ;-
90 % of street crimes, knife crimes and gun crimes are committed by men rather than women.
12% of London’s men are black.
the Statistics lead the Metropolitan Police to think that black men in London have committed
54 % of street crimes
46 % of knife crimes
50 % plus, of gun crimes (67% according to Daisy McAndrew on LBC Radio today)
The Sunday Telegraph adds a caveat - i.e. the statistics do not actually show that those, in the above percentages, are convicted in court of street crime are black men but they do indicate that where police catch their suspect, that suspect is black.
“In the 21st century, the principal grounds on which the Met is accused of racism is that black men make up a much higher proportion of the people stopped and searched by police officers than any other ethnic group.
The Equality Commission assumes that such a practice shows that officers must be covertly racist.
But the disproportionate number of black men identified by victims as perpetrators demonstrates that racism need not have anything to do with it: when the victim identifies the assailant as a black male, it is logical, indeed necessary, for officers to start investigating black suspects”

If these official police statistics are correct does it justify “disproportionately targeting black men” under stop and search ?

I can only speak from personal experience, which is that an area I used to patrol as a Police Officer in an English city was a well known crime spot where street robberies using knives were one of many types of crime which regularly took place. And in the several years I worked there, I cannot remember any of them perpetrated other than by black males.
We used to refer to them as "a black man's crime." I have referred only to that specific area.

Orc - these are official police stats - are you, as an ex-policeperson saying that Police stats are worse than damned lies ? The police interpretation of the stats seem to spelling out that Black Men (who are 12% of Londons male population) are responsible for over 50% of Londons street crime, knife crime and gun crime. Thats a pretty damning statement as it stands - are you saying in your view the London police Stats are lies and that the figures are near 100% ?

What it alludes to is the interpretaion of data.
Stop and search (or "suss" as it used to be called) is disproportionately affecting coloured people because of the anti-terror laws.
What I find remarkable is the sense of surprise when it's released that more coloured people are stopped.
It'd be interesting to see how many of these crimes are targetted, if the knife crimes mentioned are largely gang related then it will affect the data, as it will offer insight into the criminal activities of a small group rather than the greater risk to the public posed by black people.

I believe from what I heard on LBC Radio, that these stats are the first ever Official Stats to be released re inner city crimes by black men. They were obtained because of a drawn out freedom of information request by the Telegraph.Daisy McAndrew of ITV seemed surprised at their release, I think because no one has managed to get them officially released before.
These figure only confirm what most people know to be the truth anyway but are too scared to say.
"Street Crime" was virtually "invented" by blacks, mugging was practically unheard of in this country, ask your parents and your grandparents if you dont belive me.
My parents are now hitting 80 and like me were born and brought up in london and can chart its demise and remember vividly the problems that started around the 60's and onwards, caused by blacks.
they moved from their first home because of blacks, and are quick to also point out that there were also lots of italians around where they lived (who never seemed to cause any problems), but the perpertrators of most of the crimes that caused them to move were blacks.
They tell me that the majority of crimes were muggings and domestic robberies (stabbings hadnt caught on yet)and had no intention of bring their kids up amongst such garbage and moved out, but sadly it soon caught up with them again.
