Should the next England Football manager be an Englishman just because of his ethnicity, or the best man for the job?

(No English manager has ever won the English Premiership since its inception).

Well I tend to think we should have the best person for the job regardless but as we are referencing stats, the world cup has never been won by a team with a non indiginous manager!

Get Vic Akers, he seems to know what he is doing and has been very sucessful as a manager. Think he has semi-retired now but im sure he could be lured back if the England job was offered to him!

we may not be the best at Rugby but we usually get to at least the semi in the world cup and quite iften the final. So the Rugby team are not as hopeless as the football team. The cricketers have done ok lately too. Its just this dam Soccerball we seem to be terminally sh1te at!

Geezer, i have always thought myself that the participating teams in the soccerland world cup should be limited to just to those nations who can play rugby or cricket properly #

I think Beckham will make a good Manager in the future.

For now, I think we should have a coalition partnership of Manager. An international one and an english one, split paypacket, so hopefully all the contention between the Managers will bring out the best in the team.

Comparisons cannot be made because the English Premiership is made up of teams who are full of foreign players

Whilst one is not allowed to choose the best players for the job, they have to be the right nationality, I don't see why the manager should be different. Same arguments apply to both. If the manager isn't English then presumably we can go scour Europe, South America and elsewhere for our England team too.

There is less International competition in Rugby Union. Some big name countries certainly, but overall it should be easier to shine in that sport than in football, which many countries have as a national sport..

Where would you look for a English Manager?

Many of the other managers at this World Cup have been successful managing club sides full of foreigners. Spain's manager previously managed a Real Madrid side full of foreigners, Carlos Queiroz, Portugals Manager, cut his teeth at Manchester United.

Surely one of the basics of managing the England football team has to be the ability to speak English.......Capello only has a very limited grasp of English

Succesful foreign managers are not always successful in English football.......remember when England wanted to appoint Luiz Felipe Scolari? He won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, and reached the Euro 2004 final and 2006 World Cup semi final when in charge of Portugal. He turned down the England job and took over as Chelsea manager. He lasted 7 months at Chelsea before being sacked.

I believe Hodgson has managed the National sides of Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates with zilch success, so is an ideal candidate for England Manager.

As for Rednapp, his only bit of silverware is a "Droopy the Dog" lookalike competition runner-up medal 1998.
