im not saying that things havent moved on,of course they have,but there is still an element of paramilitary violence that goes on even to this day and that is undeniable..was there not a bomb planted only last week outside a police station???

Think about it if you're a bomb maker or a quarter master in the U.D.F or I.R.A, what are ya gonna do now the struggle's over?
Sell second hand cars, get a job in Curry's?
You go into racketeering.
They had status during the struggles, now they're an anachronism, they're not going to fade away quietly so they perpetuate the old battles and make their living the old way, it's all they know.
It's almost perverse to think that it's as hard (if not harder) for an old provo to re-assimilate into society as it is for an ex squaddie.

Why are the orange order allowed to march through catholic areas???

The authorities are crazy for allowing this to happen

If they wanna celebrate why not do it on their own patch well away from the 'opposition'?

It just gives the bored Irish youth an excuse to carry out pre-planned violence against the security forces

Do the Orange Marches still take place in english cities?

They certainly did in Liverpool when I was a kid and I recall there were flash points at certain parts of the routes. In the old terraced houses you could tell people's affinities; in some of the houses in the window above the front door there would be a statue of King Billy on his horse; in others a crucifix or a bleeding heart on the hall wall.

I'm pretty sure the Lodges marched in Glasgow too.

In Lewes down here in Sussex, at least one of the big Nov 5th bonfires has an effigy of the Pope on it!
