I have just seen the news that Prince William doesn't want to live at his base, but is renting a cottage to enable him to shack up with his girlfriend, at a tremendous cost to the tax payers, surely his family can pay for his security

The Royals should get an increase in the civil list and be obliged to pay for their own security out of this.

The purpose of this would be to show their true cost and stop them hiding behind the disingenuous "they only cost 30p a day" type of statistic we hear trotted out all the time.

They might also think twice about this sort of decision when there is a fixed pot for their security budget.

How about a Royal 25%- 40% public sector "we're all in this together" Cut - same as the rest of us under austerity ?

Because of his status he will have close protection security wherever he lives and wherever he goes.
