Do you remember him?
In the 80s he was a champion, we all loved him he was the best at his sport and I think we will remember him with fondness.

Alex Higgins at 61 died of Throat Cancer yesterday. RIP Alex.

I agree, he was great at his game.

I was made to watch snooker as a child....I lived with my two Uncles...and he was by far the best to watch.

My father and I had the pleasure of meeting the man on several occassions and to be honest he could be the most charming man you could ever meet and a chance word could turn him round completely depending on how much he'd had to drink, but despite this was a very likeable man. Was he the best snooker player? well he was in my opinion certainly in the top two or three players in the history of the game there is no doubt at all the he was the most entertaining player you'd ever see on the green baize,

He sinle handedly made snooker watchable to people who had fallen asleep watching the old guys potter about. havin watched him at the top of the game during the days when snooker was massive on TV I have to say he was a real star and his decline through his personal demons taking over was the same sad story as the legend George Best. I see gazza in the same light too.
Alex's daughter must have children of her own now, she was his light as I recall

Used to chat to him regularly in the pub
Great guy and very entertaining - he was a real character and a great snooker player.
He will be greatly missed in my local! :-(
