The Ex-Deputy Chairman and a director of British American Tobacco must be very pleased now he is back in Government and in the Cabinet.

// In March 20 senior doctors called for a sweeping extension to anti-smoking laws, urging the government to prohibit smoking in vehicles and public places visited by children like parks and playgrounds.

Its report warned that 9,500 children had to be admitted to hospital every year due to passive smoking. //

Now the Government's new health minister has said "We have studied the smoke-free legislation and decided not to proceed with the planned review, because we feel the legislation is working."

Ken Clarke and his mates at BAT will be happy tonight.

What are your opinions for and against the now dead law to protect children?

Night all. x
my parents smoked all thru my childhood & I've smoked long enuf to earn my bus-pass. Am not on any medication, my only problem are the flies/fleas & midges...yaaaawwwwll. Am going to murder them :(
part 2 :) Haven't seen my GP in 40y & work pt in local hospital - I think I've earned any treatment I may need thru my fag-tax & work !
Just got my blood test results today, the first one since giving up smoking nearly 11 months ago. All Ok except my cholesterol, which is high. The doc told me that smoking was causing the high cholesterol, what a load of bull. I've a good mind to start over again.
calm down Gran, have a fag
Thanks alexandered give us a fag I haven't got any.
on its way Gran hope you have a light
I love the sale addys that say from a 'free smoke zone'. I want some free smoke :)
Craft - I'm afraid you're kidding yourself if you think you could just give up smoking if it was made illegal. Why do you think we have heroin addicts?? Nicotine is just as addictive. If you enjoy smoking carry on but don't kid yourself
That was partly what I was trying to get across on my recent post chattykathy, it demonises smokers. No-one can expect everyone to just stop if they make it illegal. I wouldn't have stopped if someone was trying to make me stop after 50 years, there would have been panic stations. I stopped because I wanted to, in my own time. Drug takers are given more support, and nicotine is just as addictive it isn't easy to pack them in.
Absolutely, gran. I gave up 4 years ago after about 7 or 8 attempts! It ain't easy!!! So glad I did now :)
And you're right of course, smokers get such a hard time ..
