As someone who works in IT support, I'd say that very few people entrusted with a company-provided laptop take good care of it.
Kinda my point with the percentages LeM...

We seem to loose about 1.5-2% of laptops per head of staff a year where I work.

Yes, I look after the company equipment I use. However, their is nothing I can do if my equipment is stolen.

And what is the point of your post?

RebelSouls, Gromit answered your question at 11.39. Yes, I look after employers' equipment as I look after my own. But on occasion I have had things stolen despite my best efforts. So what, exactly?

Factor force of habit the parasites letters have that or something similar on the letters they send me.
I don't know if it is still the case, but MOD used to make all employees sign for anything issued to them as a part of their job, including keys, and any losses had to be payed for. I can't see why any other publically funded organisations can't do the same.

Wonder if some of the problems you've been having with licencing is down to what appears to be a petulant attitude. Have you tried dealing with them in an adult manner?
