Pakistan Flood Appeal

Hi Guys,

I have just seen on the TV that an appeal is being launched for the flood victims in the Swat Valley in Pakistan.

I have also read that the same place is a terrorist training place.

Why should I want to save people who are going to try and kill us at a later date?

I don't like feeling like this, so what I would like to hear what you think.

I dont feel like that.I just see the human suffering and hope in my small way I have helped someone.

I too don't like to see the suffering but since seeing a documentary about how much money some of these appeals raise and how much reaches the people who need it and were the money actually goes, into admin etc and quite often into bribes to corrupt officials and warlords who are quite happy to amass a fortune through their own peoples misfortunes. I know all big charities aren't the same it's just that I prefer to donate to local charities, were you can often see how your money is being spent

xstitcher, 14 million people have been affected by the floods. Only a small handful of them are likely to be potential terrorists. Don't tar everyone with the same brush, please.

Paddywak, I have Pakistani friends and they have told me in the past that bribing officials is just a way of life over there. I'm in no way condoning it but it's a different culture than we are used to.

It might be their way of life boxtops but I find it totally wong that these people are quite happy to divert money away from the people who need it, their OWN people at this, to finance their own life style. I also find it quite hypocritical that the people in power in these countries who know this siphoning of funds is happening even if they themselves aren't involved and do nothing about it, complain that other countries are not doing "enough" despite sending millions in different forms of aid

If someone made a donation to a charity like Oxfam they could be sure that their donation would help the right people, those in dire need.
People in the UK have already given more than 9 million to help.
