Two friends of The AnswerBank have decided to cycle from Big Ben in London to The Coliseum in Rome.

They're riding for the Stroke Association and the British Heart Foundation - two excellent charities. They hope to get £2000 in total, so if you can spare a couple of quid you can donate here: http://home2rome2010.co.uk/sponsor

Just choose whether you want to give your sponsorship to the Stroke Association or the British Heart Foundation. The process is entirely safe and is run by Just Giving

The AnswerBank has donated £250 to get the ball rolling on sponsorship.

The Home2Rome2010 team have a Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.c...40926772613711?ref=ts

Even if you can't donate, "liking" them on Facebook would be a great way of raising some awareness!

Thanks everyone,

Spare Ed

£2000 is pretty modest. Wife and me raised £2000 for British Heart Foundation just doing the London to Brighton.

That's what I said to them McMouse.

Hopefully they'll be well over target!

I assume you were biking from London to Brighton?

Stroke assoc is one of my charities ...as I lost my dad to a stroke... and the man who would have been my stepdad... many years later...so the donation is for mum really
Question Author
It is an important charity for me too Rowan. I am really happy these two included them.

The Stroke Association don't get quite the amount of press or consideration as I think they should.

Thanks guys. You're all being really helpful.

From their site:

"Jack and James cycle the 1,250 miles from London to Rome.
Starting on Saturday 28th August the route will take us from London to Dover, along the French / Belgian border to Strasbourg and down to Basel. Then over the Alps via the San Gottard Pass and down to Milan, and on to Rome via Florence, Sienna and Tuscany to arrive in Rome after 14 days cycling on Saturday 11th September."

Sounds like fun!!
Question Author
Yep, they've got a blog here: http://home2rome2010.co.uk/

Keep an eye on it! There is bound to be some amazing photos.

I donated a small amount to the British Heart Foundation as I suffer from heart and lung disease myself.
Question Author
Thanks Daffy. I spoke to Jack earlier and he's collected £100 cash so far.

If it keeps coming in in little pockets like this we'll have some happy charities!

Spare Ed
Yes Ed we did it on our bikes. Ditchling Beacon was a tough climb but worth it for the great descent into Brighton.
Done! Mr LL had a major heart attack last year and I have nothing but praise for all the NHS hospital staff concerned and for the British Heart Foundation. I am more than happy to give. Good luck to these two for the bike ride.
