Anyone at this "event"? I hear the trouble started because people tried to push in when others had been queuing for hours. Any one know the details?

People abandoned their cars on surrounding roads to do battle with fellow customers and an under-strength security team in order to secure sofas and other furniture. Two Policemen were originally assigned but soon needed to be supplemented as customers attacked each other in search of bargains. One customer secured a sofa only to be "mugged" on the way to the till.
Ikea were expecting about 2,000 people & in fact 6,000 turned up resulting in bedlam. It was all to do with leather sofa being offered at a sale price of �40. See link below.

It wasn't as bad as the sampede in September last year when 3 died in Saudi. 8,000 decended on Ikea to get $150 vouchers! Crazy.
