At work today management were told of the decision on our payrise, apparently the cost of living increase this year set by the government is 4%, we're getting a 1% rise, from March 1st next year and not backdated. the part-time staff and students etc, are going to get a 2.2 % cost of living rise this october AND a 1.5 % rise next march, what the hell is that all about? I don't tend to understand finance and stuff, but why should a part-timer who works 20 hours a week sitting at a till get a rise like that when i work my @:elbow off running the bloody place??? beggars belief. I'm in the union and so i;ve emailed them to ask what the hell they have negotiated!
yeah, those that don't earn enough to pay national insurance and tax and the students who don't pay tax at all, by the time the tax the rise it'll be worthless.
Maybe they've decided that the part-timer who gets a sh!t salary needs a bit more in the pocket as a 'thankyou'.....and please don't assume that part-timer don't also work there butts off.
unions are useless - the nmc negotiated an absolutely crap pay rise deal three years ago for nurses and now the lovely 'dave' is in power, we're not getting anything (apparently). so far, i've not heard a peep out of the union about this! as for my poor dad who is an engineer, he is also not getting a pay rise and they have also stopped his yearly bonus - so he is in effect getting a pay cut. poor bugger...x
te part-timers that work with me don't do anything but serve on a till for a 4 hour stretch with a 15 minute unpaid break thrown in, it bears no comparison to the miles a walk in a day and the mult-tasking i have to do.
doesn't matter what trade you are in...join a union! or not - it probably won't make a difference anyway. i am a member of two - the nmc and unison. probably not worth the £30 monthly fees i pay...x
I got a massive pay rise from the DWP of £2.40 per week, but as I got a zero rise on my works pension I had to pay 60p tax so actually received the grand sum of £1.60.
Dot - be grateful you're getting anything, all those of us who work in the NHS are on a pay freeze for the next two years. No cost of living rise for anyone.
