^^ bankrupt
It hasn't gone bankrupt yet - the article states that it may be filling for Chapter 11 (similar to a CVA in the UK) allowing them to carry on trading and try and renegotiate their debts.

This isn't particularly new news - it was reported much earlier in the year (http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/mar/

The American Company is indeed the parent company of the UK arm, so yes, if the Parent comany fails, the chances are that the UK will be effected.

It may be that the UK arm is profitable in which case there may be a buy outm but personally I doubt it. Very sorry for the people who work there.
It is an old business model. Technlogy has caught up with it.

In this era of downloading, you can buy from you numerous sources, legally and vitually instant, that firms such as Blockbusters are totally irrelevant and pointless.
I thought most were shutting down in UK anyway
Ours has already, but so have most things here.
it's probably because I rented The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo a month or so ago and was 3 days late taking it back, they've spent 3 first class stamps reminding me to call in and pay the fine and about 6 phone calls to my 1571 mailbox but i very rarely get time to go to the retail park where they are . I didn't mean to cause them financial hardship!
dotty, why not just join one of those postal rental services, and you can keep things as long as you like

DVDs only, not tapes
Karma. Sorry but they are the reason a lot of small video rental outlets shutdown. Not been to Blockbuster for years.
