National Anthems (Part II)

With due deference to propergomper whose post started me off

It really gets up my nose that the FA and the RFU etc use God Save The Queen as the English National Anthem. It's not. There actually isn't one. GSTQ is the British one. I'd like to see Jerusalem or Land of Hope and Glory. Any other suggestions?

God Save the Queen may be the British National anthem, but it is anti Scots. I agree with you Jerusalem would be a good English National anthem

They do use Jerusalem at Twickenham, but as part of the pre-match entertainment, so to speak. Makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Doing it after the Haka would give the All Blacks something to think about.

They also play Jerusalem at England cricket Test matches.

I dont think the FA would ever use it at football matches.
The majority of the present players,especially Rooney,struggle with GSTQ.

What REALLY annoys me about the National Anthem is that it appears to be more about praising a person (the King/Queen) rather than a nation.

I'd like to see the crowd howling Greensleeves before England played the All Blacks - with an orchestra of 50 virginals and a couple of shawms and sackbuts and maybe some morris dancers on the field... really put terror into the heart of the opposition, that would.
