I think its terrible unless of course you are lucky enough to actually have underpaid instead. It won't effect me as I'm self employed but has the mistake happened over the whole tax year or just recent months? Is there no way people could have noticed they were paying less tax than usual?
this is terrible!! you never know where you stand with tax etc. If you owe them money believe me they will make you pay up! Makes me wonder if your better off working. it only cause probs with tax credits if you do overtime or your hours drop/ increase!!

Im ignorant Im afraid on how much tax I pay, I cant work it out at the best of times, so its just a waiting game, I leave it to my employer to work out the necessary deductions....
that is very true you believe what as been deducted is owed and if you dont ahve it you cant spend it x
The taxman is not an ogre. If you owe above £2k you automatically get time to pay, but if you receive an unexpected demand for money and you cannot pay it immediately contact the tax man at once and come to an agreement to pay.
Don't stress about it. The people who owe money is a small per centage of the population and the likelihood is you will not be affected.
I've never underpaid...........I've overpaid which the taxman reluctantly agreed and paid back...
Hope the figures have been calculated in the letters.
...correctly.

Missed that last word out!
