The Proms.
Does anyone else think this annual flag waving event is racist and offensive? Why is it allowed in a diverse society like the UK?
I'm surprised there's not a lot more protests.

Eddie, the black faces are just tokenism. Haven't seen anything on this thread to change my mind.
Time for a change, it needs to be more inclusive.

Offensive? Why, and to whom? I'm not a particular fan of it, but what's wrong with a bit of nationalistic jingoism and flag waving? It's primarily an "English" thing. I'm not English, but so what? I'm a Brit but still have national pride, many countries display their pride overtly, so what's wrong with people gathering in a spirit of national identity, singing a few songs and waving a few flags?
Absolutely nothing wrong whatsoever.

Thomas, this thread is stirring for the sake of it. The event is a national tradition - did you watch it? If you had, you would have seen in the audience flags of a great number of countries not part of the UK - it was a really international event, with participants and audience coming from all over the globe. It's a splendid annual celebration - not remotely racist or offensive.
Thomas now you are being ridiculous. Ticketmaster etc don't have time or remit to faff about screening people because there are called Ali or Mbongo or Smith - and I know some very nice black people called Smith - how would they possibly know, and why, more to the point, would they care? Perhaps black people just don't like the proms, any more than - say, some of us - might not enjoy a concert a black desert group. Personal choice,
