jake........nobody has said that it is a "dreadful" place to live, just out of 10 European countries, using certain criteria it is the " worst" place to live.
as i said its a joke. pepper pot the results and choose which country beats us under each heading, disregard all the others trailing behind in each category and bingo, we are the pits.
They seem to base "worst place to live" on prices of things mainly when conveniently forgetting that UK is a low direct taxation place and hence higher indirect taxation. Hands up who would like French Income tax at 33%?? mmmm? nope thought not!
R1Geezer....it is not the rate of direct taxation that is important it is at what level it comes in. I wouldn´t mind taxation at 100% as long as it came in at €500.000.
I said that all countries have their pluses and minuses.
Jake....nobody is disputing that....well I would as I am not sure what Australia and Canada have to do with the question posted and as for life expectancy in the USA we are not comparing like for like.
You can pick out the best bits for UK and I could pick out the worst parts and we would get nowhere.
I hate to side with the lefties on this but personally I'd live here rather than anywhere else in Europe. I don't accept all this standard of living balearics. The NHS alone is worth living here for, no where else in Europe is comparable.
