A petrol increase can go on from midnight the same day as announced same as the fags and beer, why wait till 2013?
The downside to this would be couple each earing £22,500 a year or £45,000 beteween them, wouldn't lose out, but the person who earns £40,000 + a year , will
maybe not so fair after all?

45k for two people is a big difference from 40k for one person. Two people cost twice as much in living expenses.
Question Author
but if that £40k person is the the only earner?
I have also wondered about this many times.

Will all those already receiving the allowance have it taken from them in 2013, or only those who have children after that date?

If it is the latter, then perhaps many conspiracy theories regarding the delay of 2-3 years come to mind, (who's planning to have more children in this time)?

It was released as a statement by Osborne this morning, not sure about the fairness of this AOG?

I would imagine it would be on a basic salary NH..
or else why do o/t to give it to the Chancellor
I very much doubt that.

It's reported as being people in the 40% and 50% tax brackets.

If you or your partner pay tax at that rate you won't qualify for the benefit.

Would be nice if that money had gone to help those who needed it most but it'll just go into George's piggy bank
Bobbie, you said couple on 45k and person on 40k. So I took it a single person..

didn't make myself very clear there ummm.;-0(
yes jtp I agree with you
well thats me then, and my wife earns nothing.

is this a ruse to allow lower earners to have more children and stop the high earners breeding ? lol.

Heaven forbid Ankou, the spermbankers will have a bigger field day than they already have!
I think the logic is simply that if you're earning enough to be a higher rate tax payer you shouldn't need hand outs from the state.

It's quite difficult to argue with the logic - especially when everybody's always gong on about the need to pay back the Bank money
true jake. it just gives my wife that little bit extra every week.
i suppose we don't mind giving it up, so long as it goes towards the eighth or 9th child of a low or none-earner.
Back in the old days you never used to get Child Benefits for the first child, this was introduced in the 70's..............personally I thought it ridiculous as we didn't need it, and I'd rather it had gone to someone who did.
>Would be nice if that money had gone to help those who needed it most but it'll just go into George's piggy bank.

To pay off the debts Blair and Brown incurred while making a mess of running the country.
// Would be nice if that money had gone to help those who needed it most .. //
Agreed.

//..but it'll just go into George's piggy bank //
Also agreed - where George's piggy bank = interest payments on the massive debts Labour ran up.
/// Would be nice if that money had gone to help those who needed it most but it'll just go into George's piggy bank ///

It is not George's piggy bank, it is yours, mine, ours
And the piggy bank is empty due to Noo labour spending.

It is alos not just due to the Banks. Labour spent and spent and spent during the good years to no effect. Just employing people on the State achieves nothing but effective figure fiddling. In other words they failed to fix the roof whist the sun shone.
The way it was explained on Radio 5Live this morning is that if there is a earner in the family who earns over £44,000 they will lose the benefit but if there are two earners at £40,000 they can keep the benefit...
