I really must try to lose some weight which means replacing my usual food with healthier food like salads but I always get bored of them.
Could you give me some tips and ingredients I can use to make a salad more interesting please?
Many thanks
canned drained beans or chick peas, raw unsalted nuts, raw sliced button mushrooms, cauliflower florets, nasturtium leaves and flowers, grated courgette, really hard kiwi fruit, apple or hard pears, bean sprouts, alfalfa, finely shredded raw brussell sprouts...crispy grilled bacon, pumkin seeds, pine nuts, sunflower seeds
I think one of the biggest problems with salad it is easy to go for a chuck it all in and add some dressing type salad. Try finding actual recipes for say goats cheese, beetroot and green bean salad or a cous cous and chicken salad with spicy tomato dressing.
By using actual recipes you will find each meal tastes different and you won't get bored as quickly.
Have a look at riverford, bbc good food and delicious magazine websites for some inspiration.
Thanks for all your suggestions.I think rump steak and chips or kebab and chips covered in half a jar of mayonaisse sounds fantastic, but unfortunately i will have to go with the other ideas :-(
Big bed of chopped iceberg lettuce, small jacket potato, homemade coleslaw with very low fat mayo, cherry toms, cucumber, celery and beetroot. I sometimes add small portion of cold beans to that too.
You could replace the potato with grilled chicken breast covered in dried Italian herbs and also add a hard boiled egg if your diet allows.
I love my salads. I chop 5 crab sticks up, then cubes of cucumber, loads of lettuce, cut cheery tomatoes in half, then I put a tablespoon of cheese and chive dip in it and mix it all up. Mmmmm
Kebabs are actually quite healthy if you stick with chicken or lamb. Pitta bread is low in carbs.....grill the meat with peppers, mushrooms and onions...serve with with a crunchy salad...
Sorry to disagree with all of the above excellent answers, but other than a steak with chips, there's nowt you can put with a salad to make it interesting.
It's rabbit food, and dull as dishwater, unless served with the aforementioned steak and chips.
I always like pea-shoots, baby spinach, mozzarella, pine nuts, apple and really thinly sliced beetroot in my salads - oh and plum tomatoes with a little salt and pepper.
