Has the EU finally really lost touch

Headline on the International Heral Tribune (Yeah ok sorry for this but its what the Crowne Plazza left on my door)
Looks likem depsite the austerity measures being bought in by numerous EU countries, including the UK. the EU deems it necessary to increase ther budget by 5.9 % lifting annual spending above EUR 130 bn (>$180 bn), about half the annual public spending of a mid sixed nation like the Netherlands.
Given that the EU is principaaly funded(by net value) by Germany and the UK, is it not time to call a halt on this wasteful beurocracy?

It is supposed to protect and promote the economies of the member states.
If you take us we once used to buy nearly all our butter from new Zealand now although its still coming in we buy the majority from whithin thee EEC meanwhile we sell our Apples into the EEC instead of them buying them from the USA etc.
This protects jobs the rest of it springs from this.
What these people want is a United states of Europe. The question now is if this was divolved what happens to our jobs and our markets?
Remember Peugeot make cars in Coventry because of EU subsidies if those subsides disappear so do the jobs.
Amazingly I agree with YMB about the budget but getting rid of it may cause much more harm than good.

You talk as if everybody agrees with what is going on in the UK and that it's necessary and right.
In fact Cameron is in a small minority. Most other states in the World think that public spending needs to be solid until economies are on a stronger footing.
Even the head of the world bank was cautioning the Government to to cut too fast
The EU is simply going with the majority consensus view and not taking wreckless gambles with the economy

Thanks for the confirmation that you live on another planet, youngmafbog.
The Coalition Government have no decreased their budget, they have increased it. They plan on spending the extra money raised differently, not on teachers and nurses, but on paying their banker chums back the money we owe which we gave to some other more incompetent bankers.

we should revert to our original agreement, ie the common market.Cooperation and trade agreements. Anything beyond that is merely to create red tape so left wing public sector workers can have a job that really doesn't exist and Kinochio types can bury their snout in an extremely oppulent and bottomless trough.
