What next to ban on planes?

So we are now banning toner cartridges. One down 14 gazillion other potential bomb carrying items to go! I wonder if the terrorists imagination could think of any other items to put explosives into! In the end we'll ban air frieght altogether. Is this sensible or have we just made rod for our own backs?

What happens when the terrorists start hiding the explosives inside of them, will we then ban passengers or implement full body cavity searches and x-rays on every passenger?

There will never be a way to make aircraft completely safe. If someone wants to get a bomb onto your aircraft they will. End of. However, we can only do what we can to try to eliminate the risks and be vigilant. Other passengers have an obligation to remain vigilant and not be complacent as well. When Richard Reid tried to set his shoe alight on an aircraft, he was on his 6th attempt and what did the people sitting next to him do? Nothing.

What they should have done with this latest device was to draw a veil of secrecy over it's discovery, then took it away to a safe and deserted spot and waited for the terrorists to remote explode it.

Perhaps then they could have gained more knowledge from the time of the detonation etc.or even if they intended to activate the device, or it was just a dummy.

At least it would have kept the perpetrators guessing.

it's not clear if the bombs were to be set off remotely - one of them apparently had a timer, which presumably was preset.
