Only 1 in 6 older people say Tv licence fee is value for money. I don't know any young people who think it is value for money

oh.. were you referring to my "football is on" comment?

I was replying to your "why aren't you watching the tv then?" question.

Askyourgran the parasites that run the BBC would never be able to claim the high wages if they stop the Licence fee.
I would be willing to bet that if the question was prefaced with the amount the BBC spends per day (more than £10 million/day), a lot fewer people would think it good value.

P.S. My mum thinks it is excellent value – being over 75 the licence is free to her.
Of course all the other tv companies pay their staff and 'stars' peanuts.
Why is a manufacturer of stairlifts interested in what folk think about the licence fee and what's on TV? How many folk took part in the survey by the way?
It's great value for money. Question Time alone is worth £3 a week. What do you have against the BBC?
// The survey shows that 42 per cent of that age group believe that television was better 10 years ago than it is today, with 15 per cent of them saying that they have considered cancelling their TV licences due to a lack of decent programmes. //

So 58% of a notoriously grumbly age group are saying that TV is better than it was 10 years ago, and 85% of them were happy to continue paying the licence fee. Well done the BBC! - sounds like an excellent result.
That just about sums it up! :o)
The price of The Daily Telegraph is almost twice the daily rate for the TV licence and you still think the licence is not value for money?
If the BBC lost the licence fee and relied instead on advertising, ITV, 4 and FIVE would all go bankrupt.

SKY 's operaion would suffer greatly too, but it would survive by charging 4 or 5 times what the BBC charges a week, for a far inferior product.
Don't burst his bubble.....

The BBC is fantastic value for money - I'd happily pay twice the amount.
1 If we were given a choice, I wonder how many people would pay up?

2 Why should the TV licence pay for radio?

3 The BBC world service looks like a Government mouthpiece - why else would the BBC supply a service to people abroad who don't pay for it? Why should the good old licence fee pay for this?

4 Do I sound like a grumpy old geezer?
Here you go RS - Id did give you this link before but perhaps you just forgot

http://www.guardian.c...cm-poll-james-murdoch

63% say the BBC is good value for money

77% think the BBC is an institution we should all be proud of!

Good news eh?
This fellow doesn't think it's much value.

At one time you had to have a licence for radio (wireless) buth that was back in the days when homes with TV sets were in a minority.
Actually given the common " 'twas better in my day" attitude you hear from older people isn't it rather remarkable that from RS's one link only 42% of them think it was better 10 years ago.

That must have really disappointed the Survey team

Wonder who comissioned it - the Torygraph seems strangely silent on that
and who do the guardian always speak up for jake
The guardian admits to comissioning the poll and cites the pollsters Filth

Where is that information in the Torygraph?
