On news 24 this morning I'm sure I heard that the synod is the only place other than parliament where laws are made, this horrified me slightly before I though, well there must be limits or we'd all be going to church on Sundays by law. So exactly what laws can they enact?

agreed: human knowledge is relatively insignificant in the overall scheme of things.

so why do you imagine this makes any sort of case for 'god'?
.
imagine finding this 1000 years ago http://www.amnh.org/e...elephant-skull_lg.jpg
sorry Geezer, i think you answered your question yourself " human knowledge is relatively insignificant in the overall scheme of things"
Errr

anyone from africa, asia or anywhere elephants are indigenous would recognise it immediately.

Who the fekc are you addressing?

And that doesn't answer my question to you.
.
very easy to put a name to a body or bone that people find

' Prehistoric animals' steg? Would those be the animals that were in existance since chronologically BEFORE the beginning of creation as laid out in the bible? And what's your stance on evolution whilst we're at it?
sorry Zeuhl i made a mistake there, for some reason i thought you were R1Geezer, i really don't know why....my sincere apologies hope you accept
No probs steg - thank you.

it's all down to the excitement of intellectual combat.

Hang on! You mixed me up with Geezer!!!!!!

Blimey. (goes off to ponder)
.
nox, Darwin was cool and proved as did others evolution imo, the bible? a book that i have never read and have no intention of ever reading
sorry Zeuhl again, my daughter had just arrived with my granddaughter
ah okay so your argument now is that god exists becuase everyone has always thought he did and those people who wrote the bible and are in charge of his PR on earth clearly have no idea what theyre talking about.... that's one thing we agree upon anyway.
not really nox no, i'm saying that because i cant comprehend god, that is not good enough for me to disbelieve in god, as i can't prove the existence of god that doesn't mean to me god doesn't exist, and cause nobody seems to be able to prove that god doesn't exist,..................
Zeuhl, as "human knowledge is relatively insignificant in the overall scheme of things" there is so much humans can't comprehend so so much we don't know even round about us, that is probably one of the main reasons i cant rite off god
steg

gotcha

I half-agree. We know very little and we seem very insignificant in the entirety of the universe - and we may only be able to detect a tiny part of it. For me, i am happy to just not know - about most things really.

Does god exist? I don't know.
But I can see no good reason to fill that gap with a belief that god does exist. I have to ask; what is the purpose of that belief in the absence of information one way or t'other?

it would be that the belief in god/ life after death / purpose for life etc are all self serving for the human psyche and 'wishful thinking'.

Therefore, the most likely explanation is that Man imagines God because it suits us to
.
What about all the miracles God has worked? You can't just ignore them and say they never happened!
Question Author
There cannot be a god because he would never allow Zeuhl to be mistaken for the one true geezer. QED!
<<What about all the miracles God has worked?>>

Innovation. And your evidence of these is ....

There is no reliable evidence of any miracles anywhere, anytime that couldn't have a rational explanation.

There will always be needy people who want to believe in superstitions and fairy stories and that's fine- people believe they see Elvis in their local supermarket or god's face in a slice of bread - just don't confuse it with anything factual such as 'evidence'
.
Little pygmies, burial rituals ...have been around in all wee corners of the earth they have believed in an after life of sort, long long long before any of the mainstream religions have been about.

Well, that settles it............there is an "after life"
But you come back as a pygmy sqad!!!
