I was always taught,"You get nothing for nothing in this Life" and it's a policy I have always adhered to, there are some people who have never worked in their entire lives and there are some and I stress the word 'some' students , who think by going to University for a 'of little use degree' like Sports or Sociology will hold them in good stead for the future, Heaven help them, but I, like a lot of you reading this thread, am pleased I contributed to society by working and paying my way and not being of the take, take, take breed

Trouble is, IMO, the students keep banging on about the right to go to University. When I left school it was only the top percentage who went on to Uni, you had to get proper grades to do so, and you studied serious academic studies, not stuff like media, and hairdressing. People doing those courses did them at the Poly, they were skills-based. University educations aren't a right, they are a privilege.

I agree boxy, it isn't a 'right' it has to be earned by bloody hard work and skills
..and also, bobbi, knowing what you are going to do with your degree. I worked with a bloke once who had a degree in French Mediaeval Architecture - you think he'd work in that field - no, we worked in a brewery. What relevance was that to his future career? My niece did medicine, seven hard years to become a GP.
Yup. Working in macdonalds flipping burgers would be a start....
