After years of alcohol abuse my spelling's not what it used to be, did the drink cause this?

I'm not referring to spelling during the state of being drunk, but I've noticed I seem to have lost something. It's like years of drinking have taken away 10% of my intelligence to the point where I'm misspelling words like 'superstition', which I would never have gotten wrong before. This is kind of important to me because I always took pride in my spelling and grammar abilities as a child.

I think it's possibly because their mind is working ahead of them. Tony Blair, for example, repeatedly kept spelling 'toomorrow', that way, and had to make a conscious effort not to.
it worries me this .... that've been forgotten things and forgetting how to spell words, because I'm seeing employment in the advminstration department of one of our mainstream political parties. and i'll no doubt some cocky gaffer humiliate me for not being able to spell 'electroral', which about an hour ago i spelt 'electorol' .... if it was a medication maybe I would have got away with it.
yea so it worries me a bit

I believe alcohol causes considerable damage to the brain Dave. That's why when you are drunk your head spins, you can't walk or talk properly and you lose your memory. You also kill several million brain cells every time you get drunk. It sounds like it's startring to catch you up.
I haven't touched alcohol since I was 15 but I smoked from the age of 9 until I was 40. All these things seem very clever when you are in your teens and twenties, but you pay for them later. I'm 48 now so I hope I've got away with smoking (up to 80 a day when I was in business) - touch wood! As withe me and tobacco, perhaps it's time for yoy to decide you'll never touch alcohol again.

It always amazes me when my computer actually alters some words I have spelled wrong. That only seems to be when I am writing letters though, not on here. Are you an American dave, as gotten is an American form of got. I don't think it is an English word. Thought you might like a bit of criticism from a spelling nazi!! lol
