When a progessive one does emerge, he get's slain by the nutters, his own guard in this case. His crime? pardoning a woman sentenced to death for "Blasphemy". Can they they ever become civilised?

I have seen countless examples of bad spelling grammar etc on here, no doubt some of yours, or are you infallible? Anyway as you choose to nit pick rather than tackle the question, I can only assume that you agree 100% with my observations in the original post so thanks for that.
but surely the story lines are getting ever more desparate in their batttle for the sub 85 IQ viewers
So are you saying posters should accept the above nonsense from Geezer naomi?
If he wants to try and belittle people, then he needs to either brush up on his spelling or use a spellchecker.
Take a look too at Geezers first response on this thread.
'don't be a prat'
the above is Geezers first response and not directed at you naomi

..... clearly the person is being a prat. Can you explain why you think otherwise? If you can't see the irrelevance of this nit pickiing then my original assesment seems accurate. This and other threads get spoilt by pratts nit picking irrelevencies. These are the sorts of people who point out missing/superfluous grammar in a science lecture.
With respect, R1, I think the events in question (and many similar ones) have more to do with the general advancement of society than the religion involved. Had you/we been a native American (north, central or south, no matter) 500 or so years ago you would have with the same emotion asked the question about Christianity. Granted, there are still pockets within Christianity where, to some, matters will still appear backward and the politics dominated by religious cretins (notably the frothing-at-the-mouth Americans), but on the whole Christianity has now taken on a less maniacal role in society than it had in the Middle Ages. In my opinion, Islam is going through the process that Christianity went through between 1450 and 1950 - they simply have not travelled that road as far as Christianity has. As in our past, so today the zealots, puritans, fanatics, etc. will argue, resist and fight against (including murderously) the coming of a less powerful role in society. The wiser ones will, as usual, be more circumspect and they will in the end come out on top - simply because it is more in tune with the basic tenets of the religion (as opposed to wholesale forcing of extremist interpretations/views down the throats of everyone). Just how long it will take Islamic practice to catch up with the Christian position, I can't say, but the gap will narrow and Islam will not take as long in total as we did because they have the benefit of modern communications and general freedom of movement (which Christianity did not) so now ideas and their influence spread in a matter of days if not hours. Do not underestimate the extent to which people compare themselves with others and end up choosing what they admire (stability and freedom being very common examples) no matter what the rabble rousers say - it is sometimes called voting with your feet.
I would say that certain parts of Islam are more in the 17th century.
When you look at what was going on here then with religious fundamentalism. Comwell's protectorate, the levellers etc. replacing an authoritarian government and creating a religiously inspired Government there are some pretty obvious similarities

Blasphemy is a capital offense in Parkistan because that's the way they do things there. I choose not to visit or live in Pakistan. If the woman bad mouthed God or the prophet then what did she expect. Similarly possession and dealing drugs is a capital offense in many countries......that's the way they do things. USA captures people and imposes extraordinary rendition............
I think you're making the mistake of seeing your own culture as the pinnacle of social evolution.
Many muslims might see the sort of enlightenment values that we represent as a culture as a wrong turn and an over-obsession with the individual.
The question is how much one country can impose it's cultural values on another.
Then we get down to one of your favourite topics - human rights.
In a sense insisting that all humans have certain fundamental rights that stop women from being excluded from education for example is a tool that western cultures use to enforce their values on others.
I'm not saying I don't believe in it - I'm just saying you have stop seeing it as right and wrong and see it simple as a battle of cultural ideas

R1, each society and each individual within it will be at a particular point of the scale we might visualise in the context of this discussion. Thus I would say that if you look through the most obvious examples on the Christian side, perhaps the USA and Northern Ireland, you do not have to search for long to come up with individuals and even entire groups who are still in the mindset of battles of the Reformation. In the USA the societal balance, between those of a mindset akin to what was widespread 150-200 years ago, is so fine that from one election to the next political power passes from them to those who are more concerned with secular arguments and back again, all due to those who have no particularly strong ideological affiliations (the floating middle). So within Islam (individuals and society) you will find all shades but, as within Christianity in the examples I referred to, the numbers and influence of the fervents (right up to extremists) is greater than elsewhere. Because of this, the impression one can easily but wrongly form from only looking at one half of the spectrum is that all Christians and Muslims are somewhat extreme (right up to being deranged) because they use bigotry and violence instead of reasoned argument.
I'd take it as a compliment AOG.
R1, whist some good points about is our culture the pinicle (and I certainly would not say so - well not untill we get rid of the pinko lefties) I dont think that some of the punishments are what we caould call from and advanced society.
I doubt very much it will change in our lifetime and, more wrooyingly, we will undoubtedly see it bough over here more and more until we become Britishstan

Doesn't sound very likely YMG
The Daily Mail no less helpfully gave us stats yesterday showing that we were being muslimified at a rate of 5,200 a year

Should happen in about 500 years then
Own goal or what?
