Christians don't name boys Jesus so I wonder why Mohammed is the most favourite boys name.
It is the first or second amongst all boys names not just restricted to the Islamic world.
You would think being that he is supposed to be the last and greatest of all the prophets his name would be revered not giving to any Tom Dick or Harry or should I say Muhammed , Mohammad or Mahammed.

Not true about Jesus - they do use it in Spanish speaking countries.......I accept that Mohammed and its derivatives are much more popular in the Muslim culture.
its because islam is the fastest growing religion in the world..amd most of the religion is taking over the uk im afraid....
Christians also use Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, Simon, Paul, Andrew, James, Philp, Thomas, Uncle Tom Cobbleigh and all.
I know people with the names Ludwig mentions. I don't know any Mohammed's though.
Agree with DT, though as Spanish is one of the most widely spoken launguages, not sure if Jesus is not as popular as Mohammed. Any way can't people call their childre what they like................a whole football team if they wish
ummmm you know Uncle Tom Cobleigh wow
never heard anyone christened Uncle Tom Cobbleigh - poor bu$$er is all I say.
I knew his grey mare, nice old thing!
Muslims think Mohammed was the most important prophet.
Christians think John the Baptist was the most important prophet, and I think there are quite a few Christians called John.
You obviously haven't travelled much in Latin American(Spain and S America) countries.
In these there are MANY boys named Jesus(pronounced Hesus) closely followed by Angel (pronounced Anckhel).
Yep, DT and Invictas are right.
Among Muslims you would find every single prophets name as they believe in all of them. But Muhammad is more common. Although in majority of the countries outside Middle east even if first name is Muhammad still people do not like to be called Muhammad for the reason modeller described when he mentioned Tom Dick or Harry.

None of these people founded a religion . W

rojash //Christians think John the Baptist was the most important prophet, //
Do they ? I've never heard that before .
"John the Baptist was the most important prophet, I've never heard that before ."
John the Baptist baptised Jesus (who, of course wasn't a prophet, but one aspect of God).
Getting to baptise God is not something yer average prophet does.
....nor indeed that anybody does rojash ....

I suspect this indicates that Christians have far more names to choose from - but it could indicate that Muslims are having far more children.
Whilst I don't disagree with the notion of Jesus as the Second Person of the Godhead, he was also a prophet in the true sense of the word as 'one who speaks out' rather than one who foretells the future.

DTcrossword I didn't know Spanish speaking countries use the word Jesus but I believe it is not pronounced that way . J is pronounced like an H so we wouldn't recognise it.

I don't know if Christ is a first name or a surname but we do use the name Christine.
Did the Jews have second names . ? You do hear the term Jesus of Nazarath .Not Christ
I wonder if Muhammed had a second name ?
Modeller, Jesus is an extremely common name in some countries.

Christ wasn't Jesus' name. Christ comes from the Greek Christos meaning 'the anointed one'. Jesus name would have been something like Yeshua ben Joseph meaning Jesus son of Joseph.

Mohammed's real name was Abu al-Qasim Muhammad Ibn Abd Allah Ibn Abd al-Muttalib Ibn Hashim - and I didn't remember that off the top of my head. I looked it up on the internet - so I hope it's right. :o)

However, this is off the top of my head. Since 'Allah' was unheard of before Mohammed, that bit of his name was obviously added long after he was born.
It came top of the list last year, but ...

The reason it came top of the list is that all the variants of Mohammed were treated as being the same name, and added together. If you do the same thing with Oliver, Mohammed becomes the second most popular boy's name. In the end it all comes down to how you play with the numbers
I thought it was a surname, not a first name
