The lone rogue reporter line that the News of the World has been peddling for the past couple of years is unravalling. Coulsons assertion that he did not know is looking even more unbelievable.
At the moment, Rupert Murdoch faces the prospect of paying out many millions to celebs who were bugged to keep the genie in the bottle.
Possibly Murdoch has lost patience, and Murdoch will make a full disclosure of the News of the World's activities, as a damage limitation exercise.

hiring a News of the World editor was always likely to be high-risk. I don't suppose Cameron ever reads it (neither do I, come to that), but it's been pretty notorious for about 150 years. I imagine Cameron was impressed with what Alistair Cameron did for Labour, and thought he needed a tabloid journalist too, but Cameron was only political editor at the Mirror - not nearly so high-profile or mucky a job - and a writer of smut for Forum.
