AOG, this has been the case with my public sector employers for years, since the advent of social networking sites. We are barred from accessing any sites like this or Facebook, eBay, any gaming sites - the computers just won't let us access the URLs - and in my opinion, quite right too. We are paid to work and do the day job which keeps me more than busy, not faff around chatting to our mates. I know it's an old-fashioned view, but if my colleagues want to look at FB they have to leave the office and go do it on their mobiles, their absence from the desk is soon noticed. Two people over the years have been summarily dismissed for flouting this rule. We're not allowed radios in the offices either, or to watch the cricket.
