Melanie Phillips is pretty awesome. As Mark Thomas says:

"I am constantly impressed by Melanie Phillips’ ability to type and wave a pitchfork and flaming torch at the same time."

But are there serious concerns sitting behind her furrowed brow? Is there a gay agenda which seeks to "destroy the very concept of normal sexual behaviour"

Or is she just a mental right whinger who's 'preaching to the converted'?

We've been here before, doc............
What you describe is not simply 'homosexual behaviour'...........

You had two essentially paedophile teachers whose focus was boys.....entirely different.

andy-hughes, here's my evidence of your intolerance.

// you referred to be directly as being 'a bigot' - an answer of sufficient and baseless unpleasentness that it has been removed from the thread. //

It seems it's only people that disparage religious groups or ethnic minorities that are bigots. You can say what you like about right-wingers and offend them as much as you want to because the rule clearly doesn't apply in that instance.

Spare, I'll thank you not to treat me as an idiot. This is - or was - a valid discussion between intelligent people. No wonder AB is rapidly going down the pan.

I think enough is enough so I'll bid you goodbye now.
I couldn't have put it better than naomi24 & flip_flop, but apart from the for or against homosexuality debate, the more frightening issue here is the fact that the 'Left' deem everyone who disagrees with them as some form of sub-species.

Just trawl through their posts, they follow each one around like a flock of sheep, and anyone who dares to read a newspaper they don't agree with or attempts to put up an opposing argument, is immediately swooped down upon and is issued with insults etc.

The 'Left' who are always praising themselves for being tolerant, do not know the meaning of the word, let anyone disagree with their agenda and they are far from tolerant.

/// Another comic, David Schneider, joined the chorus of disapproval, writing: "Melanie Phillips' latest article. Blimey. Can we build a paywall round the Daily Mail website to keep the articles in?" ///

This is a perfect example of the 'Left' they are the ones who would rather not have published anything they disagree with. They don't want anything publishing or debated if it is against their political leanings.

Melanie Phillips crime (if it can be called a crime), was to write an article that she herself found the need to write, regardless of whether or not one agrees with her is a different matter, but at the least she should be allowed to write it, without being condemned and insulted for doing so.

Left or Right we should all strive for a free press, and the right for all persons to voice their opinions.

I didn't, I told you not to be rude. Please don't be.
it appears naomi has given up the struggle against those fools who disagree with her.

Never mind, aog continues to fight the good fight! Keep it up, lad!
naomi24 - if you think I am intolerant because I take exception to being called a bigot - then I stand guilty as charged.

I express my opinions - that does not make me a bigot. It does lay me open to argument, and if i feel i have expressed myself badly, or caused undue offence, i will, and do apologise.

Now - if you can adopt the same position, we can debate on a level playing field.

If however you have taken exception to your comment being removed - and it appears you have - and you are absenting yourself, then that is a pity because debate is always useful and helpful in ensuring that others understand your viewpoint.

I am sure others will carry on.

No I won't Andy, I am getting a little fed-up with posts regarding homosexuals, I will wait until they announce that the Government are planning to make it compulsory.

Then I will oppose that with all my might, even take to the streets if necessary.

"Backs to the wall and all that" :0)

If only some were more concerned with the threat of terrorism, than they are about someone's non acceptance of homosexuality, that is the real issue that affects all of our lives.
Only a heterosexual white man could have posted that^ without irony, AOG.
if they do make homosexuality compulsory I'll join you AOG! I'm glad to see you're with us in the fight against suppression of sexuality!
Sorry to hear that AOG.

I can debate issues that concern me all day every day - time permitting - and I would never get tired of fighting my corner.

AOG

I can totally understand your frustration over the number of posts regarding homosexuals...but unfortunately, the right wing press are so obsessed with it at the moment, there's nothing we can do but reflect their concerns in AB.

Its like posts about Muslims and black street gangs - when there are no stories about them, AB will refocus on something else...but whilst the likes of Melanie Phillips draws our attention to her obsessions, it makes sense to debate the stories.

Or should we just ignore her?
"This is a perfect example of the 'Left' they are the ones who would rather not have published anything they disagree with. They don't want anything publishing or debated if it is against their political leanings. "

He's a comedian - it's his job to make exaggerated or silly statements. It's not serious political commentary.

AOG, you're wrong again. The 'Left' (which by the way isn't some homogenous bloc of people with the same views and ideas like you seem to think it is), DOES NOT wish to silence anybody, or to stop them publishing. There isn't a single person in this thread who has said it.

I've got to be honest with you, I'm getting really sick of you interpreting the fact that people question what others write or say as attempts to stifle them or silence them. If I say that I think that Phillips' writings are homophobic and somewhat deluded - that's got no bearing on her ability to write whatsoever. She's being doing it for years and has been criticised for all that time.

There is absolutely no link between being opposed and being silenced. For somebody who seems so obsessed with constantly invoking this Orwellian image of society, you seem remarkably confused about what political repression actually is.
Well, she does have a point, doesn't she? I mean, it could be said that the authorities are "bending" over backwards to support purveyors of unnatural sex, and foisting similar teachings upon innocent children who know no better. Some people might think that the latter is a form of brainwashing by the state.
Are 'some people' truly that stupid, ETY ?
eyethenkyew - because your sexual orientation is in the majority, it does not entitle you to make cheap innuendos about orientation other than your own - it's not nice.
