I thought the accepted line was that Muslim extremists get away with saying and doing anything they like, but if the rest of us did the same, we'd end up in court.

So why on earth have these men been charged?

Hi, I agree, why live in a country you don't like. Maybe our Prime Minister should be more like Austrailia's. She is quoted recently as saying this which is taken from a e-mail I received.

She sure isn't backing down on her hard line stance and one has to appreciate her belief in the rights of her native countrymen..

A breath of fresh air to see someone lead. I wish some leaders would step up in Canada, UK & USA .

It took a lot of courage for this woman to speak, what she had to say for the world to hear. The retribution could be phenomenal, but at least she was willing to take a stand on her and Australia 's beliefs.

The rationale (for the extremists) is something like;
1. There is no God but Allah.
2. Righteous people believe in Allah.
3. Infidels who don't believe in Allah are beneath contempt.

This thread seems to ave deviated along a line in which there seems to be little disagreement.

Generally, it seems that w're offended by extremists - but the point (I believe) that JTP (who IS a 'she' by the way) is making, is that there is a driver behind religious extremism displayed by the protracted who have been arrested. The point of their protests are driven by our involvement in what has been described as Illegal war in the Middle East.

Something we should think about - how comes Muslims have been living quietly in the UK for 40 years, but it's only in the past seven or eight years extremism has taken hold?

Is there a link between our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan which has fuelled the fires?

The notion of British passport holders who's allegiance is elsewhere, an elsewhere that does not share similar ideaologies as the country they choose to reside makes for an abrasive society. These are people who want a say in how the country runs; you cant really view them as akin to a load of sun wrinkled Essex pensioners in Spain.

Alot of British people disagree with the war in Afghan and what is to be acheived there, but are less vocal or vitriolic about our involvement. This is purely 'us vs them' and will only worsen an already fractured society.
