i've not heard any mention of them in all the news coverage, nor are they mentioned online as far as i'm aware. are the japanese not very fond of their royals or is this down to a news blackout about them do you think??

Thats a good point enthadron. Our royals would be visiting disaster sites etc. Perhaps they have left the country to keep safe and there is a news black out. I will look online now and investigate.

after a bit of googling, all i managed to find is a brief mention on something called 'royal forums'. no details though about where they were when it happened, or where they are now. hope you have better luck snowdrop.
I didn't even know they had a royal family.
If there was a major nuclear incident in Cumbria I don't think the members of our royal family would be queueing up to go and visit the scene.

i'm sure you're right sandy. i find it a little odd that there's been nothing on the news about them though, not in terms of visiting places to offer support, etc., but just about where they are and if they're ok.
sandyroe - I dunno - sending our royal family to a radiation soaked are would be a great idea. Might stop them breeding.
The Jap Royal Family didn't just rule by divine right they were up to the end of WW II gods in their own right . Hirohito was made by the Allies to renounce that status but the Japs still hold the family in great reverence, aloof and remote .
I didn't even know they had one . . .
Where did they live in Japan?
i assume in the Imperial palace in Tokyo............
Oh blimey, course they do, what an idiot.
What is his title? I think it is Emperor so you might get better luck googling that. I haven't tried it but I may when I have finished playing about on Answerbank.
The Japanese Royal family live in the Imperial Palace surrounded by the Imperial Palace Gardens not far from Tokyo Railway Station. I have been in the part of the gardens that are open to the public and worth visiting if you are in Tokyo.
Would anybody be queuing up to visit if there were to be a major nuclear incident in Cumbria?
No fear Daisy - I for one would be running fast in the opposite direction.
Star, I Iive on the south coast. Got a spare room.
