Isn't very sad how the Emperor of Japan has only just made an address to his people now

In a rare appearance, Akihito went on live TV to make his first public comments on the disaster, and said he was praying for the people.

Is this man and his family so removed from his Nation? most Heads of State would be seen to be there as a pivotal leader to comfort their subjects/people, with an immediate address to them, not wait almost a week.

Hi Bobbi

Answer machine in Tokyo - I may have left it too late, it's after midnight there and she has to be up early to open up her pharmacy and sell more face masks :-)

Anyway, I'll report back if I speak to her tomorrow.

that's very kind of you , thank you
was his house, family, etc affected?

maybe he was too busy trying to escape the waves to consider it...?

and maybe the tv companies where more interested in filming the tsunami, and the crews more concerned with being safe, and checking on their relatives etc, and helping those in need, than organising a venue, travel, security, etc etc to rush to film a speech that actually doesnt help anyone
His Imperial Majesty will have been advised when and what to say i would imagine
