Was at my friends today and we were all on his big trampoleen with his little computer speakers playing some music. the speakers werent even loud and he came around and asked us to turn them down. about 3 hours later we were all just laughing away on the trampoleen without any music and he came around and said that we should be quiet cause we were "making a raquet" and said that he had reported it and that he would have the trampleen confiscated.

Just to make sure, grumpy arses like this dont have a legal leg to stand on. Or are my and my friends who are all law abiding going to be gagged from laughter because of some old fart

Everyone has the right to 'quiet enjoyment' of their own property .

As you are such a bright young thing - work out for yourself what that means.

Noises such as loud laughter or music don't stop at the fence boundary and what might be acceptable to you and your friends might be totally unacceptable to somebody else who wants to sit peacefully in their garden. If you can hear it, so can everybody else around. Noise in the open air travels a very long distance from its original source. If this noise had continued for three hours (as you admitted) then I think he was perfectly within his right to complain. And if you and your friends were bettered mannered and more considerate you might have realised that you were causing a nuisance. And No, I'm not a grumpy old woman. I just think consideration for your neighbours is important, no matter what age you are. Computer speakers out in the open are not neighbour friendly, even if they weren't playing loudly.

I totally agree with WendyS. People are so inconsiderate nowadays. Just because they like music, there is no reason why people next door should have to listen to it too. If you're outdoors use a personal stereo or whatever the latest thing is. It's bad enough on public transport having to listen to people's ipods, when everyone else on the bus has to listen to the noise too and it isn't music it's just a loud buzzing noise.

I totally agree with Wendy too & I'm not a grumpy old woman either!

When our family visit & we go out into the garden, we usally end up having a good laugh, but we do try to keep the noise to a minimum - why, because we are considerate people - shame not everyone thinks the same!

I have real problems with inconsiderate people who make a lot of noise. If you were sitting in your garden quietly and I was playing music you didn't like it would get on your nerves. Think about how your behaviour affects others. If someone politely asks you to keep quiet they are not doing it because they want to stop you enjoying yourself, its because they are distressed by the noise you are making. Be a little more considerate and think of others.

sorry i didnt add all the info. After he asked us to turn the music down we did infact turn it down as he asked. when we were all talking to each other his next door neighbour (who happened to be his sister son) started playing his guitar really loud. Said man goes round do guitar players house and the lad says that our talking was stopping him revsing (he had his windows open as well) and that he wasnt playing guitar but was listening to music. I and a friend play guitar and i know that that sound was of a guitar being played.

I dislike being a scapegoat for some lad being revising and a heavily dislike the fact that we had done as he asked with turning the music down and he just spoke to us like we were scum.

Whats more is that after i had gone i learnt that some of my friends went as apologised to him and he was just rude to them.

I don't know, I think it always depends on the time of day and whether or not it is an every day occurence.

I would never do anything loud after 6pm or before 12. But any other time I don't really worry about the noise level (it is never that bad anyway) unless there is a good reason for me to watch it, like neighbour was up all night with the kids or whatever, but they normally tell me anyhow.

We have a pretty close community here. All the kids are normally hanging around our houses. And sometimes we take the CD player out to make it more fun. But then everyone is welcome. And more often than not most of the neighbours end up sitting out back having a drink and a laugh. It sure as hell beats neighbourhood watch.

i know what you mean lightof some people are just miserable serial moaners. one of my neighbours held my son against his will until the police arrived to fetch him home all of 25 steps. his crime climbing the conker tree and stealing conkers. it wasnt even her tree the old goat

the police said she keeps a diary of what everyone in the street is doing cos she can see right along the street , and if she thinks a crime is being commited she writes them a letter. i had been reported for leaving my house at 7am and coming home at 5pm and could the police check if i was claiming benifits [i wasnt].

what can you do she's 88 year old

but as you said 'roll on editing' - i thought that only applied before you submit in another 'preview' window and that once you press submit, that's it - is this right or will we now be able to edit what we have already submitted?

Morning joko - As far as I am aware, the new editing system will be on the same lines as editing questions.

At the moment, when we type out an answer, it's so easy to press submit, only to notice spelling mistakes &/or want to delete or add comments - too late then. Having a preview window, will give us the option to change things as many times as we like, before we finally submit.

But once submitted, we can't edit afterwards, the same as now with questions.

Hope I've explained that correctly.

I can sympathise with anyone who has to put up with unnecesary disturbance. I`m not a grumpy old fart either. I have to put up with 4 extermely unruly,swearing, brats who`s house backs on to our garden. They scream & shout from morning `til 10pm Fri/ Sat & all school hols. School days from 3:30 to 9pm. I`ve told them off about their language & for a couple of hours, they stopped, but then it was back to square 1. I can not sit & relax in our living room if they`re in their garden. By the way they are 10,7 & 4 years old. Another that gets me is people who don`t work deciding to do the outside d.i.y with drills, hammers etc in the evenings when all you kwant to do is relax.
