Normal day off, teddy, since there are no local maypoles - and no, May Day was celebrated in this country long before the Communists hi-jacked it with their military parades.
Only been the new may day holiday since 1978 boxtops.First monday of may as far as im aware. As opposed to the older mayday celebrations , some of which actually started around april 28th i believe.
I agree teddy, the May Day hol is a fabrication, but I don't see that it correlates with the Red Square festivals in the past, at all. As I recall "our" May Day holiday was so we could all go morris dancing, and celebrate what we used to do on May 1.
Wsnt it a day off work for the workersObviously hundreds of years ago they wouldnt have been celebrating as comrades of other workers.Employers then just wouldnt have tolerated such nonsense.Smack too much of free thinking.
Well if your teacher had ribbons hanging from his willy and a bunch of strangely dressed men dancing around it waving sticks and ringing bells , then he was a very starnge man indeed.
always liked Mayday celebrations as they appealed to some inner part of me and then there is furry/flora day coming up. another pagan festival. hurrah.
