...over on 'Food and Drink' and I can find no mention of the onset of the extremely short lived and yet supremely delicious English Asparagus season...yeh...yeh...yeh...Last Sunday I had a toasted Ciabatta laden with english asparagus (steamed) with a pair of poached eggs on top and finished off with a drizzle of warm butter and tarragon sauce.
Pretentious Moi!!!!!! oh yeh oh yey bring on that asparagus........yes I know it makes your wee pong a bit but a small sacrifice dont you think.LOL

Last night for tea, I cooked half a pack of lidl cheapo langoustines in shell then put the asparagus on the top to steam as the fish cooked underneath....dump on a plate with the juices and a piece of crusty bread........

Zebadee...I am not gifted enough in the use of our Mother Tongue to describe to you the sheer delights of Engish asparagus.Please,just buy some then steam it for four to five minutes depending on the thickness of the stems and eat ...magic, any further culinary intervention only serves to enhance this most English of vegetables...Enjoy..:-)..:-)
I developed a taste for it when I was a bit younger and had an allotment. There was a chap there (Bob) who used to grow it - he took great pride in it and always gave me the first few spears with instructions on how to prepare it - baked in the oven with butter for about half an hour, medium heat. It was lovely - nothing like it. I kept it for myself (greedy) no-one else got a look in.
