We have a new puppy. what's the best way of teaching her her name? It would be really helpful if she would pay attention, but she's too busy doing puppy stuff to care!

Maybe giving her a small treat when you call her name and she pays attention, they learn quickly that way as they do with a lot of training but as they learn, remember to wean off the treats and only give occasionally.
bl00dy heck doc - that's very observant of you....

It obviously means a lot of Mr Evil Sheep. ;-)
Question is, Doc, how does someone remember their login and password after all that time...

small treat and lots of praise when they come to you after calling their name, they soon get the hang of it.
Whats your puppy's name and what breed is she ?
I have had dogs all my life, It has never even occurred to me to teach a puppy its name! It is something that happens without specific teaching, its something a puppy will pick up with everyday interaction over a period of a few days.
If you say their name enough times.....

Jeez....my cat knows his name.
It would - it's a psycho
Or is that fluff's?

If you ask me, all cats are psycho's......
Just write it down for her, she'll remember then.
My cat isn't Psycho....

He's nice, and kind, and stuff....
Nah, you got to learn the dog to read first, and that's harder than getting it to know its name. Shove one of those hypnotism tapes round its ears when it sleeps at night.... brainwash it.
lol at Mcmouse.
Could try a bell like Pavlov did.
call the name, feed the dog, call the name, cuddle the dog, call the name, treat the dog. We had 2 pups together, litter bros now nearly 4. They learned their own names and the fact that if I said "dogs" or "puppies" I meant both of them in a matter of days at 7 weeks old.
Agree with Ratter. Like kids, dogs (and cats) learn their names very quickly. I have never taught any dogs their name.
I'll do it more subtly doc.

what are the taken away answers? I don't understand any of these answers - what have they got to do with a puppy?
Question Author
except the ones that actually answred of course. The others know their names, but when i'm shouting at the puupy (if she's doing something naughty for instance) then theothers think im shouting at them, and the puppy just dosen't p[ay me any attention. I'll try the treating regime i think
