Perish the thought, jno ;)
It sure was ttfn.
I too,am proud to be British.
I invariably end up in tears at the spectacle, spine tingling.
It is indeed a thing to behold, esp being there on the esplanade of the Castle. It fair gets the goosebumps going :D
I'm English, not British

Silly Scottish traditions do not interest me in the slightest
I tried to watch but I'm not a fan of the bagpipes and I managed only a few seconds. I should have tried with the sound off maybe.

Glad you all enjoyed it even if I didn't.
Wonderful! I haven't been there for many years, but there's nothing quite experiencing it in person...
We love the tattoo too ttfn. it was brilliant tonight on the tele, but not quite as good as being there in person though. We went 8 yrs ago and it was a fantastic atmosphere, we had a great time x
It's not a silly Scottish tradition, jl, it's a military tattoo - and yes it was great this year! (if you want silly tradition in England, try Morris dancing..)
Last time I went to the Tattoo I certainly got goosebumps - it was perishing
I'm English, and love watching it, when the lone piper plays, its time to get the tissues.

Maybe the Scots nation is thankful for this. ;-)
It was better (and wasn't raining) when I watched it live last week than it looked on TV. I didn't really want to go but was surprised to find I really enjoyed it. The lighting effects on the castle were excellent. I'm not sure I'd go again for a few years though
I know its late for this post but i absolutely enjoyed it. Brought back so many happy memories of watching it, the thrill of the bagpipes and all the other musical experiences are wonderful.
I'm proud to be Scottish - not British.
Hello Ena btw - long time no see ...x
...having said that, it is a weapon-fest and I'm not proud of that .
The old girl has gone to bed AP, will tip her off that you replied.
Aw bless :-) thanky you.
A poeyem...

Edinburgh - (John Hegley)

I'm afraid I won't be going to the Edinburgh tattoo
because to me
a parade of weaponry
and the capacity to hurt
is about as pleasing
as dog dirt
on the shoe
only poo
is easier than the tattoo
to get rid of

To you
it may be taboo
to poo-poo
the tattoo
but to me
the tattoo
is something to say ta-ta to
