Elephants trying to save a gazelle

In the early 70's, the 'Weekend' magazine ran a photo story of a small group of elephants at a watering hole. As the elephants were drinking, a crocodile came up and grabbed a gazelle at the waters edge.

The gazelle was frantically trying to escape, and the crocodile was thrashing about, slamming the gazelle at the groud. The elephants repeatedly ran at the crocodile and eventually were able to drag the gazelle to safety and tried to 'save it' by nursing it with their trunks. Unfortunately the gazelle died and the elephants then left the waterhole, the crocodile returning to claim it's meal. Does anyone remember seeing this. I cut the pages out and had kept them ever since, as I thought it was a remarkable story, but unfortunately I have lost them.

I certainly remember seeing a video of a hippo helping an impala or springbok (?) - don't recall the same thing with elephant though.
