Ultaviolet lights in public toilets

Why do they have ultraviolet lights in some public toilets? What are they for?

They are so that drug addicts cannot see their veins to inject. Next time you're in a club and you're next to a UV lamp, try seeing your own veins. They also rub vaseline on flat surfaces to prevent powdered substances being snorted. (I know cause I've worked in city centre bars - and you see it all!)

All the public toilets in Bournemouth have ultraviolet lights.

Ultra violet lights are used at water treatment farms as they kill certain bacteria (I think!?!) so they could help with bug control.

It is indeed to stop heroin addicts shooting up. I've also heard about cicterns being covered in WD40, which turns coke to mush on contact. Hah!

I thought they were free tanning lights! I sat in the loo for 2 hours trying to bronze up!

I think it's unfair on drug addicts, they're going to sit there for hours, stabbing away trying to find a vein. And the coke guys who lose it on the cistern, they'll have paid a fortune for that coke, probably the last of their money.

I always thought they were the same type of thing used in restaurants to zap flies - the UV attracts insects and there is an electrical charge that kills them on contact.

its not the UV light that kills the bugs its the wire behind it that carry a voltage and, thus, when the buse etc get attracted to the light, they get eletricuted.
The UV lights and neon lights in toilets tho, are to stop drugies finding there veins.

I had to explain this after a visit to Norwich recently, my friend thought it was some weird tanning experiment to increase the health of sanitary workers :))
