MM Links Results January 2012 Week 3
8 Answers
It was a dark and stormy night, and the captain said to the boatswain "Tell us a yarn." and the yarn began like this:-
. . . enough of the SHAGGY DOG stories, you're here to find out the results of the MM Links game. so here are the selected links from 'The Court Jester'.
snake CHARMER
GIFT horse (You should see its mouth!)
Monkey PUZZLE (but few of you were fooled)
dog BISCUIT
The best game so far this month as far as points were concerned (44 of them) thanks almost entirely to the popularity of just one link.

14 players posted their guesses within the first two minutes of play.
12 of them correctly opted for MONKEY PUZZLE for 2 points each. Well done roslyn251254, tearinghair, rockfordill, centrino, beejay1124, grannydi, fordward, owllady, lysander, Christiana, Brenden & Strix
Ten players later picked up a single for the same link.
During this early rush, OwlLadymanaged to snap up (or crunch) a DOG BISCUIT for 2 more points.
Then the excitement subsided until just before 12:30, Boxtops thought it was time to switch on the charm and she claimed her 2 points for SNAKE CHARMER. All of a sudden, it gained popularity with 4 others claiming a single.
It was after 3pm when deecee131 became the sole player to guess GIFT HORSE for 2 points.
In all, we had three double hitters: OwlLady (4pts), Deecee131 (3pts) and X-ray (2pts)
I therefore declare:
*** HOTSHOT FOR ***
***** THIS WEEK *****
**** IS OWLLADY ****
because she was also the highest scorer.
In summary, this weeks scorers were:
4 owllady
3 deecee131
2 beejay1124
2 boxtops
2 Brenden
2 centrino
2 Christiana
2 fordward

. . . and the leaderboard now looks like this:

It is interesting to note that the top three players have been equally consistent scoring 2 points each week and also illustrates the advantage of playing early to gave a better chance of bonus points.
But the other side of the coin is runner-up X-ray who is always one of the last to post (Sunday afternoons usually) and he shows that it is still possible to pick up good points even at that late hour.
Next weekend is the last chance for you to pit your wits against 'The Court Jester' (aka kettledrum) and vie to be the January Champion.
Watch out as usual in Q&P next Saturday morning for the introduction at 8:45 and the challenge itself at 9:00am.
Some of you may not be aware that several players socialise on a Friday evening in what has become known as 'The Shrubbery'. That opens in Q&P around 8pm on a Friday. Attendance has been falling off recently so I am trying to organise a little bar entertainment to draw the crowds. Will it help if I get Paulineward to do a pole-dance? or maybe a Karaoke is more to your liking (but have you heard Evsajo sing? !!!
Whatever you do, don't forget our sister game - the KM Links run by Seekeerz from way down under. That is based on Kate Mepham's GK crosswords in the Daily Telegraph and usually kicks off early on a Saturday morning (7am or earlier) but there is no rush to play as there are no time-sensitive bonus points in that game.
Until next weekend then, this is gen2 saying Happy Linking.

Thanks gen2 - it was only a couple of hours ago I made my late entry - in a bit of a hurry too, so not a lot of thought went into it. - have been away from home over the weekend
I must try and get in on the "bonus" section next weekend and see if I can improve my score.
Well done owllady and the other scorers - looks like an exciting finish next weekend
