It was reported that fat policemen will lose pay if they do not lose weight.(Some people say that it is not their fault as they spend a lot of time sitting in squad cars and have to eat a lot of junk food when they are awayb from home. It is even thought by some doctors that obesity may be due to inherited genes.
What made me laugh was a cartoon in the Sunday Times showing a burglar being chased by a fit, slim policeman.
The caption was(burglar speaking) "There's never a fat copper around when you want one."

That cartoon - excellent. My OH is a trucker and spends a lot of time sitting in his cab, away from home and being tempted by junk food. It is possible to eat healthily though.
Policemen and women are trained to a level of fitness during their initial training, and it should be their responsibility to maintain that level, as a job requirement.

No-one would accept a soldier being unable to march in full pack - they maintain fitness as a requirement of the job they do.

Police forces should instigate regular fitness training for their officers, as well as providing them with access to a proper diet during working hours. the rest of the responsibility lies with the officer concerned.

The notion that a criminal can excape simply by being physically fitter than the police officer chasing him or her is simply not acceptable. Good diet is a personal responsibilty, there is no excuse for eating junk food.

Hopefully this edict will come into force, and policve officers, like other uniformed employees, will be required to maintain a level of fitness to enable them to perform their duties effectively.
