Name of film???

I have been trying to think of the name of a film recently, and it has been driving me NUTS!! It is an american film, that I remember watching on TV when I was probably about 10, so thats 10 years ago/mid 90's. Its a comedy which would appeal to kids more than adults, I remember that my mum didn't like it though! The main story is about a boy who's adopted (i would say he's about 8 in the film) and his behaviour is so bad that this causes his adoptive parents to get divorced. His mother leaves, but his father stays with him no matter how badly he behaves. I don't want to watch this film again, but i was having a discussion with someone recently which made me recall it,  and I cannot for the life of me think of the name of this film! there is also a sequel which carries along the same sort of stuff. Anyway, someone put me out of my misery, please!

Was it 'Problem Child', starring the late John Ritter? Although in that, both parents tried their best to put up with him

I think I remember Problem Child, a ginger kid who was really naughty.  For some reason that film ismaking me think of Pee Wee Herman.

Yes thats it! I didnt know that John Ritter was now dead though, he seemed quite young in the film so I presume it was not of old age?
