Is Boris the Tories new Winston Churchill?

In view of Boris Johnson's Mayoral victory compared to David Cameron’s party's slaughtering in the council elections, is it only reasonable to assume that it was Boris's personality that won the vote rather than his politics?

If this is true, surely the Tories would be wise to ditch Cameron before the next Election, and pick Boris for their next Leader, as he seems to possess a certain Winston Churchill about him.

This country has had enough of these faceless wonders, who have not got one iota of personality or charisma to share between them.

He's certainly got something, he was on my wife's 'would but shouldn't list' and she's a dyed in the wool communist lol.
All joking apart I do think he's clever, charismatic and a lot of the time refreshingly unapologetic in a time when everyone seems to try to be bland, but for all that he's scarcely a Winston Churchill, but the tories should do themselves a favour and pick him as their next leader.

No. Cameron is more like Winston Churchill. Winston did what needed to be done and faced up to some very difficult decisions. He delivered but when the country came to vote, the people ditched him for a Labour Government.

I predict that now Boris is safely elected Mayor, there will be a load of bad press to come soon. Particularly the finances of London Transport which is running out of money. Boris will have to increase fares and cut a load of services. Also, Boris' dealings with the Murdoch empire have been downplayed until now. I expect johnson to get tainted with the Murdoch sh*t in the next few weeks.

He seems quite happy to have the pissss taken out of him and go along with it all, but underneath is a very clever person.

Winston Churchill:-

Churchill won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1953.

In 1963, Churchill was granted an honorary American citizenship by decision of the US Congress.

Served twice as Prime Minister.

He was a painter

Churchill led us through World War II.

He warned of the dangers posed by the Soviet Union.

Time magazine named Churchill “Man of the Year” in 1940 and in 1949.

Boris Johnson:-

None of the above

I think they have one thing in common. Don't appear to like the north. Winston once advocated sending gunboats to the Clyde and shelling Glasgow. Boris doesn't much like Liverpool, apparently.

I don't think that anyone should underestimate the anti-Ken vote.

He managed to alienate the Jews early in the piece, he then said he wanted to make London some sort of Islamic utopia, I realise that's not exactly as said, but that what it sounded like in sound bites.

His taxes, that even when caught he refused public access.

Then after saying that new buses were a lot of cash said he would get rid.

He came across as a vengeful, nasty person.

- small point of accuracy ,Churchill didn't lead us through the whole of WW2 , Chamberlain led us into the war , replaced shortly afterwards by Churchill who was the main war leader who led us to VE day ,but in between VE day and VJ day - victory over Japan - the official ending of WW2 , he was replaced by Atlee who won the 1945 election ( the Labour Landslide ) .

He didn't win by a lot, but win he did and i am glad. Can't abide Ken Livingstone. He is not Churchill mind you, there never will be another. He is his own man, warts and all. One day i hope he runs for the leadership of the party.

What is Churchillian about him is that he absolutely refuses to meekly comply with the party's line, if he disagrees. Churchill went so far as 'to cross the floor' Can't see Boris being driven to that. Some years ago the Party made sure he had a party minder to watch over him when campaigning in the presence of the media. When someone asked him what he thought of gay marriage he said "I don't know...' then to the hapless minder' What IS our line on gay marriage?' Not waiting for the minder to reply to this mischievous, mocking enquiry, he went on to say that man with woman man with man, man with dog..well , it's a free country, what does it matter what they do etc etc before saying he was in favour. Brilliant and refreshing, and typical.

That's what the public like; someone who is not the cowed party hack, with the party line, but who thinks and speaks for himself, and who has a certain charisma.
