Is my mum entitled to anything?
15 Answers
My mum has been living with my partner for the past 15 years, whilst they were together he bought a house (14 years ago) but it is in his name only and he pays the mortgage. My mum fell pregnant 14 years ago when he bought the house, since then she has been working part time whilst bringing up their child (my half brother)
I know she is not entitled to any sale of the house-but seeing as she has lived with her for so long is she not entitled to anything at all? He has just decided that he no longer loves her any more and wants her to move out after 15 years, although she has nowhere else to go and only earns £300 per month. My brother now 14 would have to go with her as he works all the time and is never home. I dont want to sound greedy but it seems so unfair that she made a home with him for all those years, cooked cleaned and bought all the food that he can just throw her out, although i understand he paid the mortgage

If they are not married, then this could be tricky. She should see a solicitor specialising in family law. Even though your mother may not be entitled under the law to anything, her partner must pay maintenance for your brother as he is a minor.

I'm afraid that unless some sort of agreement was made regarding sharing the property it is very unlikely your mother will be able to make any claim to it or receive any payment (beyond child maintenance) from her ex.
