Nice little poem received with a wedding invitation which I would like to share:-
"We are sending out this invitation,
And hope you'll join our celebration.
If sending gifts is your intention,
In modesty we'd like to mention,
We've already got kettles and toasters
Crockery, dinner mats and coasters
But most importantly, we request,
Your presence as our wedding guest."

thats very nice, I received an invitation a while ago with the same poem!
robert.
your friends really appreciate the value of friendship above that of material gain, and they are to be commended,

i hope you have a good time at their special day --- wish them well for me.
It translates to 'give us cash' :-)
I like that, when my nephew got married they said not to worry about presents. They just wanted people to attend.
reading between the lines, they want cash gifts

Yes, the poem goes on to say, "Please give us money for our savings pot."

that blew my goodwill out of the water then.
Boom!!! We are all blown out of the water, what did you say NoM to upset the lady?
The ex and I received the same poem when invited to his brother's wedding.
What a load of old cynics! We're off to a birthday party tomorrow, and 'no presents' is on the invite so no presents it is.
nothing cynical sheenamf, lots of married couples request money these days, a birthday party is a lot different to a wedding in terms of preparation, importance and cost.
And on here.

Personally it always makes me feel slightly uncomfortable if invitations say no presents, just your presence...... so if its a party or a wedding anniversary I usually just take flowers, they are always gratefully received.
I actually think asking for money for a present is repugnant, regardless of whether its for a wedding or not.
Hello Cazz I was really trying to say that sometimes 'no presents' means just that and it's not code for 'money please'
Sheenamf, we are referring to the original post and the full version of that poem when asks for monetary gifts, as those of us who have received one know!!

When we eventually get round to it (if ever) our wedding invites will say "the bride and groom respectfully request that you honour us with your presence rather than your presents" - we don't want anything, we just want a bloody great Fosters up.
