I'm going to the 40th Wedding Anniversary Party of friends of mine who my late husband was Best Man for. The host was our Best Man when we were married too.

I'll be seeing lots of old friends whom we never really socilaised with over the years, in other words we didn't mix with them on a regular basis.

What time does anyone think is the best time to arrive? The invitation says 7.30. Should I arrive right on time or should I give it a while for others to arrive and then mix with them then. I don't want to be one of the first to arrive and then people think they might be "stuck" with me. TIA.

i'd head for somewhere between 8-8.30
LOL.....we ALWAYS arrive on time.

However after digesting your comments i would arrive about 7.45.

Good luck
and i don;t think anyone would think that they'd be "stuck" with you
Unless it's a sit-down meal (in which case I'd arrive on time), I'd go for around 8ish.

And as fluff says, I'm sure no-one will feel in any way 'stuck' with you

And you SD. It's a party in a marquee in their garden so I guess there'll be drinks before hand and then either a meal or buffet. Thanks
hope you have a good time :-)

Thanks mc f.
I agree 8-830 and im sure theyll be pleased to see you and enjoy your company! Laugh at all the old times xx
ditto, 7.45 - 8pm is an ideal time, but why not ask them if you can help out beforehand so you are there first to get your bearings?

do you have a (grand) daughter or son who could 'walk' you?

it will be hard for you wiout your hubby!

also, why not take any old photos or your wedding album as a talking point, if needed?

I'm sure we will tinkerbell. I'm afraid my liitle granddaughter is a little young at 3 to go with me cath. Lol.
Oh bless....she would certainly be a talking point. I'd go for a 8 o clock arrival and think cathfromsaron's idea of taking some pictures with you is wonderful.

Enjoy our evening.

What a fabulous idea.......you are having a 40th Wedding Anniversary and one guest turns up with her wedding photograph album..FORGET IT. unless you want to be the most unpopular person at the party.

It's THEIR party........not YOURS.

Alright already Sqad!! No need to shout at me!! It was just a suggestion of cathfromsaron.

I'll just be taking myself. OK?
chrissa...I was just thinking of your well being....;-)

Chuckle, chuckle. Thanks Sqad.
Hi chrissa1.
Do you have a close relative you could go to the party with ? Since my dear wife died I go places with my sister in law who is a widow so we both get to go places without having to constantly go alone. ( platonic friendship does work between man & woman you know !!)

I would wait till about 8pm to arrive and look for someone you know well and have a chat, move around and mingle. just a short chat or drink. could you take a friend with you as a plus one.? Im sure you will soon be invited by some one to join them. have a good time
