Words of comfort
13 Answers
Does anyone know of a poem or song or just some words of comfort that I can send to my colleague at work. Her baby died when she was 36 weeks pregnant? I've had a look online but nothing seems quite appropriate, coming from a friend.
She came into work to say hello today, 3 weeks after having to give birth and I found it so difficult to say the right words and thought they might be better written down. I feel so deeply sad inside because it felt like we went through the pregnancy with her, only for it all to end abruptly.............x
Many thanks

There are no "words of comfort" really

I found this little poem for you, you will have to change the words a bit, but it's lovely.
Little Snowdrop
The world may never notice
If a Snowdrop doesn't bloom,
Or even pause to wonder
If the petals fall too soon.
But every life that ever forms,
Or ever comes to be,
Touches the world in some small way
For all eternity.
The little one we long for
Was swiftly here and gone.
But the love that was then planted
Is a light that still shines on.
And though our arms are empty,
Our hearts know what to do.
Every beating of our hearts
Says that we love you.

No words can comfort all we can do
Is share your North face route with you.
No one can take your pain away
Or cut bereavement's journey short.
Perhaps you would not want them to
Your grief is all that's left to you
Of one so loved who could not stay.
All we can do is walk with you
And try to match our steps to yours.
Just keep on walking day by day .
But let us share that cold road too
To walk a little way with you

There's a poem - "Sometimes" by Sheenagh Pugh. I don't know whether it can help, cos right now I guess there's nothing anyone can say or do when she's going through this pain.
So maybe not right now, but in a while she will need your support, when the well-wishers have faded into the normal routine of work again.
