What I did today, by JJ, Infant 3

Today it was sunny and I had to go to London. Poo, I thought. London is ponky and horrid.

In London, I met a nice lady who gives me money to drink and gamble and visit my boyfriend for sex.

After I had seen the nice lady, I walked up the busy road to a place called Starbucks. I like Starbucks in Marylebone because you can sit at a table with strangers, and get WiFi on your iPad. This makes the people wonder if you are doing important business, because they can't see that you are just looking at AnswerBank. With my power suit on, this made me feel important, even though I was just drifting aimlessly for the rest of the day.

Well, I clicked on the Good Morning thread. That morning, after I had gone to get the train with all the ponky commuters, DTCrosswordfan had posted that, if he was in Marylebone, he would go to Odin's.

Ooh, how exciting! I thought, wondering if I was sometimes too easily pleased?

Taking my coffee with me (JJ is a bit of a pleb, and likes her coffee in a cardboard cup, even when she is drinking "in") I walked up the road, past Daunt's, the nicest shop in the world (not counting Harvey Nichols, obviously). I turned into Devonshire Street, and there was Odin's. I pressed my nose against the window, a habit which annoys restaurant owners, especially in the winter when a lot of people have runny noses.

I thought Odin's looked quite jolly, with paintings all over the walls. No, I mean seriously ... ALL OVER the walls, right up to the ceiling. There were white table cloths, and comfy looking chairs, and waiters with long aprons that looked a bit French.

I took out my state of the art iPhone5. Okay, okay ... I actually took out my battered old Nokia, but the principle is the same. Can you get out at lunch time? I said to my friend. Yaay, and woo hoo. Meet me in Daunts, I'll take you for lunch.

I've lost the thread of this ...err, thread.

Do you want to know what we had for lunch? At Odin's :0)

Thank you for pointing me that way. I've never been before, and it was jolly.

You are completely and utterly mad. Oh and I know who you are!
I thought I was the only pleb who asks for a paper cup when drinking in.

It just doesn't taste the same in those giant mugs.
The food is ok, however I wouldn't call it fabullllous but isn't the place fun? Did you look next door at Langans - similar but there is something much more Bohemian about Odins. Its great fun and attracts a good crowd - and good for people watching too.

Know the Pot au Poule in South Ken (Ebury St)? Now that is fun especially if "tu peut parler un peu en francais" to establish some rapport! Good food and excellent for the people watch!

No, I like paper cups too, hummingbird.

Besides, you can get up and go if you haven't finished your coffee.

I loved the paintings, DT. The ceiling is really high, and they've put them all the way up to the top.

I must've walked past it loads of times, and never been in before.
Spent many an hour in there, so I know - it's been one of my little wooing places.......
F****** mental!
Question Author
It was not too expensive.
Question Author
Hey, mike ... x

You don't have to be f mental to be an ABer ... but it helps.

Isn't that on a mug, or tee shirt, or something?
So what did you banquet yourselves on then, JJ?

I had crab bisque, and pal had I think it was smoked haddock souffle, or something. Then I had calves liver, and she had ... ... ... ... ... ... mental block there ... she had sea bass with pak choi. Didn't have time for pudding coz pal has a proper job, not like her delinquent bum friend.
the crab bisque is making me hungry! Will have to make some soon....
love crab bisque. can you send some down to the lizard? pretty please.
love a good lobster bisque too - a nice splash of Armagnac in it!
Question Author
They had a dish of the day sort of thing, and it was sirloin, with Yorkshire pudding and horseradish. That was tempting, too.
Question Author
They must have nice crabby things at the Lizard, LJ ?
Question Author
"make" crab bisque??
Only if the beef is rare, JJ, well that's my preference.
where do you get your fish/seafood, Lady J.....

there's a supplier to the Lemon Tree I source from and then the little fishguy in the garages on the right as you swing up the hill into Sainsburys in Falmouth.
Question Author
Absolutely, DT

A good vet should be able to get it back on its feet. That when beef is just right.
