Total rubbish at nursing home this afternoon.
Went to see Dad at the nursing home and the Social Worker who I had dealings with in the past told a lady she would have to use half the value of the house which she half owns / occupies with her mother to pay her nursing home fees.
The social worker did not seem too happy to see me talking to this woman after. I wonder why?.

This persuasion to sell houses for finance goes on all the time, they get away with it because if it came to a legal argument they would just say it was only a 'suggestion' not a demand. They do not like people knowing this and that explains why the social worker 'was not happy' to see you giving the correct information.
My brother admits that this goes on but says that they are told to stop as soon as they come up against someone who actually knows the law.
Then again some people are quite happy to sell up and fund the fees ! even though they legally do not need to.

This issue seems to me to be really important to you and it is good that people campaign for things they feel strongly about. You haven't contested the point on other threads that you have raised this important issue under a number of other names, but I'm wondering whether Answerbank is the best forum for bringing about any change.
