Roll Call
It was early morning at the military base, and the first sergeant was calling out names for the daily work parties listed on a piece of paper:
"Ames"
"Here!"
"Jenson"
"Here!"
"Jones"
"Here!"
"Magersky"
"Here!"
"Seeback"
No answer.
"Seeback!"
No answer was heard again.
"SEEBACK!!!" The troops remained totally silent.
At that point, someone whispered into the first sergeant's ear.
He looked again at what the last name really said, quickly turned over the list and continued calling the names printed on the other side.

Also my brother who wanted to know where random was, winners were always drawn out at Random! Makes my family sound unhinged though. I was the one who thought the footballers were clever, to be able to replay exactly the same match on TV later in the evening.
Good story, reminds me of a similar one. The US Marine sergeant was calling out the names of new recruits, he got to the name Bluesky and there was no reply. When he'd finished he asked if there was anybody who's name he hadn't called. A large native American stepped forward and when asked his name replied Blue Sky.
